Action 5

This action aims at fulfilling two complementary objectives. The first is to establish an emission balancing for emerging substances as well as to study fate of these substances in the watercourse. For this purpose a combined approach of monitoring and modeling is applied. The second objective was to reduce emerging substances in wastewater treatment plants and in other emission input sources. Here, additional treatment techniques were studied and tested:

- 1-step total effluent polishing filter as post treatment filter

- Dissolved air flotation as pretreatment technology

- Activated carbon adsorption as pretreatment technology

- Retention soil filter downstream of combined and separate sewer outlets

- Filter systems for drainage water from agricultural land
